Quilting Books
Building a wonderful and exciting quilting book library can be lots of fun. There are so many beautifully illustrated books out there with fantastic ideas and tips. Many quilters build their library slowly and over time giving them a chance to have a good read and look at each book. I have bought many stunning books over the years and love just looking through the beautiful and inspiring photos every time I need a new idea.
Quilting books are also fantastic for the coffee table as your whole family can enjoy them and perhaps show pictures of what they would love for you to make next. My kids love looking through and asking me if I can find a particular fabric or make a certain style for them or their teddy bears.
Some of my favourite books are:
Better Homes and Gardens: Complete Guide to Quilting - A one-stop quilting reference for beginners and experts. Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting shows readers how to master every technique, method, tool, fabric, block, seam, knot, and stitch. It’s like a private “show me” quilt class designed to help quilters expand their skills.
The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired - The 1922, The Farmer’s Wife magazine posed this question to their readers: “If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in light of your own experience, have her marry a farmer?” The magazine at the time had 750,000 subscribers, and received over 7,000 letters. The best answers to this question are included in this book, along with the traditional quilt blocks they inspired.
500 Traditional Quilts - Quilters: prepare to be inspired! From precision-pieced log cabins and dimensional trapunto to feathered stars and intricate appliqué, this remarkable collection captures the beauty of traditional quilts as never before. Juried by Karey Bresenhan, a renowned figure in the quilting world, and featuring a huge roster of the very best national and international artists, these 500 masterpieces showcase classic patterns, forms, and techniques.
and from one of my absolute favourite designers …
Kaffe Fassett’s Quilt Grandeur: 20 designs from Rowan for patchwork and quilting - In this collection, Kaffe Fassett presents 20 all-new patterns and collaborates once again with quilters who have become household names: Liza Prior Lucy, Roberta Horton, Mary Mashuta, and Brandon Mably.
If you have a favourite quilting book that you use as a reference or even just a beautiful quilting book that you would like to recommend to other quilters, please email the details and we will might include it on the website!
